uring the summer of 2012 Sky Ride Local bike rides are coming to North Lincolnshire. The rides are organised by North Lincolnshire Council, in partnership with NHS

North Lincs and supported by Sky, as part of their National Sky Ride campaign to get one million more people in the UK riding their bikes. Sky Ride Local is all about helping

communities to embrace bike riding, to explore their area and meet like- minded people. Ten Sky Rides will take place across North Lincolnshire during June and July. The events are free of charge and

cater for varying levels of experience, so you can pick a level to suit your skills and enjoyment. Whatever level you choose, you'll be riding on safe routes, with ride leaders. And if you haven't dusted off your bike for a while, they'll happily check it over for you. All the information about the

Walk this way...

Spring is the ideal time to start enjoying the outdoors by joining in the Walking the way to Health led walks. North Lincolnshire Walking the Way to Health coordinates a popular programme of regular health walks led by trained volunteer walk leaders. Walks are mostly 2-3 miles long. They are a great way of meeting new

people, getting outside and feeling the many benefits of walking. As well as being a good way to maintain general wellbeing, walking can help cut the risk of conditions such as diabetes, alzheimers and bowel cancer, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. To add to all that, Health Walks are all

free, easy to fit into your existing routine and take place throughout North

Lincolnshire. If you are not sure how far you can walk

come along to Normanby Park any Friday at 10.15 (free car park pass available) and join one of the three different length walks. Storytelling and local history walks are

being organised in conjunction with North Lincolnshire Libraries. To mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 5 June 2012 an inter- generational walk will enable you to bring the children and grandchildren and enjoy a led walk around the beautiful grounds of Normanby Park. Short walks of one mile will restart in

March for anyone not confident in attempting the three-mile walks. The popular evening walks will start in May. To find a walk near you, pick up

programmes of all walks from local libraries, council office reception areas and tourist information offices, visit www.northlincs.gov.uk and search for ‘walks’, call Christine Johnson on 01724 297631 or email christine.johnson@ northlincs.gov.uk for more information. If you don’t want to join a group and just

want ideas of where to go, you can also download maps of walks to follow independently from the council site. Printed map packs for these are also on sale at the same outlets as above.

rides and how to book on will be coming on www.goskyride.com We want to show you that the spring, summer and autumn

should be all about bike rides; it is easy, fun and a great way to spend time with friends and family or meet new people and get to know your local area. Introducing new people to Sky Ride Local through the Sky Ride website can also earn you rewards and prizes. The North Lincolnshire Cycle Group

will be using the Sky Ride programme as the opportunity to launch a programme of social led rides across North Lincolnshire. Rides will be delivered by local people who are ride leader trained and will also be promoted on www.goskyride.com If you would like to speak to someone at

North Lincolnshire Council about Sky Ride please contact Marie Hughes in the Sport, Play and Community Development team on 01724 297181 or marie.hughes@northlincs.gov.uk
