Cook’s tour de force

School chef Audrey Harris has won the Yorkshire and Humber School Chef of the Year competition 2012. Audrey works at St Bedes RC School and created an inventive menu with produce grown by the pupils in their school garden. Audrey went up against two other

school chefs to win her place in the School Chef of the Year 2012 final. The competition is organised annually by the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA).

Audrey had 90 minutes to prepare a

two-course meal costing no more than £1.25 suitable for an 11-year-old.

Her menu comprised a tortilla chicken basket, sauté potatoes and

salad for main and a strawberry mousse, with shortbread fingers for dessert.

The cook-off took

place in front of a panel of judges, including two pupils from a primary school in Hull. Audrey will go on to pit her culinary skills against nine other top school chefs from across Great Britain at the national final in May.

Audrey: recipe for success Bikers: check before you ride

If you’ve not ridden all winter, take time to check your motorbike for faults or wear and tear that could affect its safety or running. While you’re at it, make sure your clothing and helmet are still in good enough condition to protect you. On the first ride after a long break, take it easy and get your skills back up to scratch.

It’s easy to lose your edge when you don’t ride for a while. Check out Bikergroove.co. uk – a one-stop shop for information on biking around northern Lincolnshire. A lot of work is put into encouraging riders to enjoy biking without excessive speed and riding dangerously. Police enforcement is there to catch high speed riders who give all bikers a bad name, and cut the number of casualties – not to spoil your day.
