Participating in the monthly board meetings for SMEI’s international leadership team, dropping in on chapter events and participating in various committee conference calls helps me feel the pulse of SMEI’s inner workings. It is so exciting and rewarding to see and hear about the successes we are experiencing around the world. It is also encouraging to hear how our strong leadership team meets challenges head-on, a remarkable trait of true leaders that will continue to position SMEI as the world’s leading professional association for sales and marketing.
Your SMEI leadership team has been working diligently to plan a new strategic path for the organization. This process started with the launch of a “Future of SMEI” task force during the 75th anniversary year of SMEI in 2010. Building on the tremendous legacy established by a succession of leaders over the organization’s past, this task force reached out to many members and leaders around the world for input and feedback as they worked to reinvent our membership structure and benefit offerings.
Over many months this process has evolved and the recommendations of the task force have been approved by the International board and ratified unanimously by our chapters and affiliates. Emerging from this process we have clearly defined a totally new membership structure which we are launching this month.
Our membership structure will have three distinct tiers:
1. Member: A new entry level introductory membership which will offer basic membership services and will include a 20% discount on SMEI events
2. Professional Member: Transitioned from our existing voting member, this membership level will be fee based and will include our traditional membership benefits and a 50% discount on SMEI events
3. Executive Member: This all inclusive fee-based membership will include SMEI events, certification renewal and other benefits as customized by our chapters.
Please stay tuned as we communicate additional details. We hope you will take advantage of the membership offerings and share them with those you know in your local sales and marketing circles. This is an exciting time for SMEI!
