Session Focus: The Changing Face of Retail
One of this year’s seminar leaders is Anthony Norman, Commercial Director within the Retail and Technology division of GfK. We discuss what to expect from his presentation.
With 10 years experience working with technology, Anthony Norman is well placed to discuss how retail is evolving to meet the demands of customers who are choosing to shop in different ways. A1:What first attracted you to getting involved in the Retail Business Technology Expo?
Anthony Norman: GfK are keen to partner and support the leading conferences both in the UK and overseas. RBTE has a great program and one that GfK really wanted to be involved in and support. A1: So what made you decide to get involved in this years seminars? AN: Having met with the shows organisers it became apparent there was an area whereby we could support by offering a seminar that looked into how the retail sector is changing and what that means for retailers, especially with the growth in e-commerce and m-commerce and changing consumer shopping habits. A1:What should visitors expect to take away from the session? AN: I hope to give the audience some clear recommendations based on factual
information. GfK can blend retail audit research together with consumer insight to provide the attendees at the seminar with some actionable ideas to take away to help then grow their business during a rapidly changing time. A1: How do you believe these changes will affect the retail industry? AN: The retail sector is going through huge change at the moment. Consumers are spending less, especially on discretionary items due to their own personal finances. Consumer confidence is almost at a record low and all this at a time when consumers are choosing the most convenient shopping experience for them. For retailers, this means the need for a consistent message across all their customer touch points and ensuring that a consumer has the ability to shop how they want with you – whether this be in-store, online, via Smartphone or any other format available.
