I am constantly on the lookout for the latest emerging artists and read all the industry press for developments. We have recently launched a programme to help emerging artists in the European market called Play London, where we invite such artists to record live sessions. The objectives of the programme are to uncover new talent and help such bands promote their art through our network. One of the most interesting parts of my role is getting involved in rapidly evolving new technologies. My team has spent the last three months developing unique business mixes that will be relevant to those looking for a professional music sound but who are unable to afford something that is customised for their business. Combined with new playback technologies, we’ve developed 13 distinct sounds based on our experiences, which will be available online. The challenge for my team will be to keep these business mixes fresh and current and at the same time ensure the feedback we receive from clients is incorporated into future thinking. With technology changing at pace, my team is forced to constantly re-evaluate how it maintains a high standard of profiling

and ensure we understand the importance of music in the creative process. As part of my daily routine, I have to

understand world music more and more as clients look for regional variations. This is challenging, as most countries want some form of local content within their music profiles. My team has to adapt to the fact that technology is making music distribution global. This excites me and means I continually think outside of the box because mixes that work in London may not necessarily work in Dubai. Using more and more metrics on music consumption on the Internet is becoming increasingly relevant to my role and again allows me to understand more regional variations. I am very lucky that my job is also my biggest passion – music. From time to time I head out to attend gigs around Europe as well as industry shows such as MIDEM in Cannes, France, which is a great opportunity to scope out the latest emerging artists. I can regularly be found in small venues with record label A&R representatives and journalists looking out for the next big thing. Then it’s back home, ready for the next day’s work.
