Advertorial
The retail sector is often seen as being an industry that is working very hard to become environmentally friendly – regularly making Eco talking and using carbon emission data to back up their claims. But just how green is the retail sector prepared to be?
Amari Plastics, the UK’s leading distributor of plastics and display products to the retail sector has a large variety of products that can be considered to be more environmentally friendly than some of those traditionally used. They could be classed as “greener” because they contain elements of recycled materials in their makeup, they can be recyclable, they may be manufactured by companies that have
the most up to date emission controls and have low energy consumption, they may be made from none fossil fuel based elements or it could be a combination of all of the above. The basic rule of thumb however is that the “greener” products have cost more than there equivalents in virgin materials. The difference in price can sometimes be substantial but more often these days it is marginal. However the uptake of these products within the retail sector is slow – often the end user saying that they cannot be used unless they cost not a penny more than their more harmful equivalents - placing the onus on the manufacturers, distributors and shop fitters etc to reduce their margins. If the retailer does buy a more environmentally friendly product do they then pursue all the avenues open to
them to complete the circle and have the product responsibly recycled and not allowed to go to landfill? Or is it a case of ticking a box and moving the responsibility off someone’s desk? Amari Plastics is well placed to help the retailer meet all of these needs and usually within the prescribed budget. From products such as the unique Greencast cast acrylic sheets – suitable for all internal and external signage, point of sale items and fabricated displays to Falconboard honey comb display boards for internal use in displays, fixtures and point of sale, to 3A composites Smart-X, 100% recyclable styrene sheets that are used for printed point of sale to Polyester optically clear window films from MACtac that are none PVC based and recyclable.
