The Pelham Razorbacks will be celebrating their 40th year of

youth football in 2012 and are coming off yet another successful season that featured two State Championships, one New England Championship, third place Nationally and two State Runner-Ups. With over 250 children participating in football and cheerleading, the Razorbacks continue to be recognized by their peers as the premier organization in the State. What started as one football team at the “Midget” level, has now blossomed into six football teams and three cheer teams in the New Hampshire Youth Football and Spirit Conference (NHYFSC) through American Youth Football (AYF). The group was founded in 1972 by then Pelham resident, Charles

W. Graham. Graham was the President of the Pelham Lions Club, and he was a passionate football and boxing fan. He graduated from Nashua High School where he served as captain of the varsity football team from 1937-1939. He owned and operated C.W. Graham Real Estate and Insurance Company in Pelham and passed away in 2005 at the age of 87. All the Razorback families are grateful for all he gave to the youth of Pelham and Windham and the legacy he left behind. In 1979 there was an opportunity for then Board members to

talk with Frank Broyles, who was the Director of Athletics at the University of Arkansas and the team was deemed the Razorbacks – East. The Charter from our big brothers in the West was simply – “Do the Hog Proud.” In keeping with this directive they established 1979 as the year as “the Year of the Hog.” That year featured various players and cheerleaders who are still active in the organization today or who have children or family currently playing or cheering in the organization. Players then included Kenny Eaves (currently a coach), Ray Cashman (Pelham firefighter and EMT at home games), cousins Tim and Bob Jozokos. Cheerleaders featured Kelly (Laffey) Homsey (Team Mom) and Donna Eaves (son Justin was on the third grade team this past year). Football took there first State Championship in 1990 and then came on strong in 2004 with 15 State Championships, eight State Runner-up, two New England Championships, five New England Runner-ups, and one third place finish at the National Championship to date.

Cheerleading came on strong in the 1997 season where the Razorbacks had seven teams over five levels and took home their first State Championship in 1998. Consistently competing at the New England Championships, the Cheer program has seen three

Championships, two Runner-Ups and two Placements to go along with their eight State titles, six Runner-Up and four Placements. In addition, they have two National second place finishes and one National third place finish. Off the field, the Razorbacks accomplishments are equally impressive with all they have done for the Pelham and Windham communities. When Pelham High School launched their football program, it was the Razorbacks who helped by donating equipment. Muldoon Park, which is the staple for all youth sports in Pelham, was developed largely in part with the help of the Razorback program including the field house and football tower. All the lighting on the soccer and football fields was installed thanks to tireless efforts and donations from the Razorback program. Fast forward to present day and the Razorbacks are the number

one ranked program in the state of New Hampshire. In 2010, the entire football program went undefeated and took home state championships at every level as well as a New England Championship. 2011 continued with their winning ways and 2012 is gearing up for more fun and excitement at all levels. The season will be here before you know it and opening day is Sunday, August 26. Keep up to date by visiting www.pelhamrazorbacks.com.
