Town of Salem Call for Candidates

The ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT has issued a call for candidates to serve as members for the following positions:

1 Alternate Member – term ending 2014 2 Alternate Members – term ending 2015

The ZBA is a quasi-judicial body, and the task of the members is to exercise good judgment in implementing the ordinance as it is written – not as they think it should be written. The ZBA conducts public hearings on applications where they hear evidence and testimony presented by applicants. The ZBA weighs the evidence presented against the terms and requirements of the Zoning ordinance.

Alternates must be residents of Salem, New Hampshire and are expected to be familiar with the workings of the Board so that they will be ready to serve in place of a Member. A yearly rotating roster is established to schedule a minimum of 2 alternate members to attend each monthly meeting.

Interested residents wishing to serve on this committee may submit an application to the Building Department’s Office before 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012.

Applications and copies of bylaws can be picked up at the Salem Town Hall, 33 Geremonty Drive or by calling Pam Russell at 890-2020.

Interviews with the Zoning Board of Adjustment are scheduled for Tuesday, April 03, 2012 beginning at 6:00pm prior to the monthly meeting.
