What are the common misconceptions or mistakes when specifying all the elements to make a wetroom? One of the biggest misconceptions by homeowners is that wetrooms are unsafe and prone to leaks. If an installer is professional and experienced, this should never happen. In fact, tanking a room properly with, or without, a wet floor tray, is much safer than a cheap acrylic shower tray that could crack or leak over time.
How can these mistakes be negated? Work with a reputable retailer and make sure the installer gives you an insurance back guarantee on their work.
With an increasing number of shower enclosures, replicating a ‘wetroom effect’, with low level trays and walk in environments, how does this affect wetroom former, screen, drain etc sales? Floor trays are, and will continue to be popular with installers, but will never fully replace the ‘true wetroom’. Floor trays are easy to install and achieve a streamlined look. They are also available in natural colours so can be matched to existing wall and floor tiles. These trays are however usually
made of steel, so they are cold to stand on, and you can’t run underfloor heating beneath them like in a wetroom. You are also restricted to where you can put the waste – which has to be suitable for the tray chosen.
How do you see the market for wetroom elements developing over the next three years? Is the future dependent on the competency of installers? It is imperative installers and retailers keep up to date on new innovations over the next three years. The market is opening and becoming more competitive, but there are only a handful of authentic companies that have been installing wetrooms for a number of years.
