National Self Build & Renovation Centre to restructure as CIC

THE National Self Build and Renovation Centre (NSBRC) has announced plans to restructure as a Community Interest Company. Community Interest Companies (CICs) are

limited companies, with special additional features, created for the use of people who want to conduct a business or other activity for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage. The NSBRC is a unique, permanent

exhibition centre providing a year round facility for prospective self builders and renovators to view the latest products and developments from providers in the trade village and learn from interactive displays. David Murphy, general manager of

the NSBRC, speaking at a recent Partner Conference hosted at the centre said; “This change to the fundamental

structure of the centre shows our commitment to offer a truly independent marketplace for everyone involved in self build and renovation. We will continue to offer a unique, worthwhile and valuable visitor experience for self builders, renovators and home improvers, Industry and trade professionals, conference delegates and students. Restructuring the centre will offer a profitable and positive investment for our partners and sponsors and allow the industry to shape and participate in how the NSBRC develops as an independent force.”

The National Self Build and Renovation Centre

THE centrewas opened in January 2007 and has just celebrated its fifth anniversary. Its main function is to support and enhance the rapidly growing self build and renovation market. The permanent unique 67,000 sq ft Centre is on a different scale to anything seen before in the UK self build and renovation sector. It has a dual role of helping to educate people interested in self building and renovating and ensuring those actively building can find all the services and materials they need. Visitors can discover and learn

about the different stages and techniques involved in taking on a self build or renovation project from

the two audio tours that accompany the six life-sized cut-away exhibits in the new build educational journey, as well as the full scale ‘old wreck’ of a Renovation House. They will also get inspiration inside the full scaled Potton show home and Build Centre House, which is full of sustainable technologies in situ. For visitors just starting their self

build or home improvement journey, the National Self Build & Renovation Centre can help them find a plot of land, renovation or conversion opportunities, consider finance options for their project, or simply get free advice from the team of experts. In addition they can see over 250 industry suppliers showcase their products and services in a dedicated “Trade Village”. The Centre is dedicated to helping the growing numbers of self builders, renovators and home improvers in this country and each visit to the Centre provides inspiration, advice, support and confidence in taking on the project.

The Centre is open all year round and hosts a full calendar of events and courses.
