B-RI Railroad Museum
The Railroad came to Teague, Texas in 1906, making the town a hub of commerce with an excitng future. The state’s first diesel-
powered streamline train,
Houston Zephyr,” was inaugurated in 1936 as Texas celebrated its Centennial. A year later, the “Texas Rocket” was put into commission, and these two streamliners were used for the next thirty years, carrying passengers between Dallas and Houston. When all passenger
trains were discontinued in 1966, the Depot in Teague was soon left vacant, and local citizens organized a campaign to save the town’s oldest landmark.
Thus, the Burlington- Rhodes Island Railroad Museum was born. The museum includes
many exhibits of life in a railroad town. The second floor is dedicated to our veterans, with displays from the Civil War to the Viet Nam conflict.
There is a room
dedicated to Teague business that contains old ledgers, photos and marketing promotions. And, there is so much more.
The B-RI Railroad

is the old jail building, originally built in 1857, that for many decades housed the museum’s artifacts. Story has it that outlaw John Wesley Hardin spent a night there, and many tell entertaining stories of ghosts haunting the grounds.
The Antique Telephone Museum is comprised of a collection once owned by Contel. Then, there is the
“ M o o n s h i n e r ’ s ” church from the Young Community with exhibits from the Prohibition era. Back in the day, Freestone County was referred to as the Moonshine Capital of the World. Today, much of the museum’s exhibits are housed in the state-of- the-art Barbara and H. Neil Bass Wing. The Freestone County Historical Museum is open to visitors on Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays.
