Splash of Colour Ceramic café Splash of Colour is a long- time fixture on the Salisbury arts and crafts scene, having provided creative opportunities for residents for ten years. Anyone can pop in and paint a piece of pottery in any style that takes their fancy, whether it’s to make a gift, enjoy some creative social time with friends (it’s a fun party idea for kids and adults alike) or just for some quality creative ‘me’ time. Simply book your session, turn up to choose your ceramic and Splash of Colour will give you instructions on how to paint it. Leave it for glazing and firing and then pick it up a week later. Perfect for: Young and old alike (even babies can have a ceramic foot or hand print made!). Ideal for parties, and a great solution for those who want creative results without having to learn a whole new skill (anyone can paint on a pot, even without a jot of artistic talent!). Our tip: Easter and summer children’s workshops are great for averting holiday boredom (from £14.50, book ahead). Contact: Splash of Colour, 72 Fisherton Street, Salisbury; 01722 322250;

Born to Knit With a wealth of woolly know-how, Born to Knit is the perfect place to hone your knitting needle skills, whatever your level. Various daytime (£49) and evening (£25-£29) workshops are available, so it’s easy to find one that will suit both your time and knitting needs. You can enjoy expert tuition on everything from casting on to cable patterns or colour work, and where possible the workshops are designed around a ‘project’ so participants get to learn a specific technique and take both the skills and their knitted item away with them. Tea and coffee are included in the workshops to keep those needles clacking throughout the session. Perfect for: Any level of knitter who’s looking for a little support or guidance, or simply a fun and friendly place to learn new skills. Our tip: For something a little more informal, join in with Born to Knit’s ‘Knit and Knatter’ social sessions, where you can knit and chat over a drink.
