14 UNTIL 14 APRIL LANDSCAPES OF THOMAS HARDY’S WESSEX n A

WHAT’S ON 10 MARCH – 7 APRIL

n A legend from Liverpool: Ken Dodd comes to City Hall

EXHIBITIONS

FROM 13 MARCH DOG GB – A CELEBRATION OF OUR BRITISH BREEDS n Running for about a month at Stockbridge Gallery in Hampshire (where the odd cat or horse breaks up walls filled with canine canvases) is a celebration of British bow- wow breeds – not a bad idea in this most patriotic of years

– by top canine portraiture artist Claire Eastgate and sculptor Rosemary Cook. It is the first time the two have exhibited together. Highlights of the exhibition include ‘Team Leader’, a large bulldog painting, and ‘Brahms’, a life- size bronze of a Cairn Terrier. Stockbridge Gallery; dogsinart.com

20 MARCH – 13 APRIL JOANNA SIMS AND OLIVIA CLIFTON-BLIGH n The spring exhibition at The Cartshed Gallery features two talented artists who share a Wiltshire studio: Joanna Sims works in pastels and oils and paints the chalk downlands around Salisbury Plain, while Olivia Clifton-Bligh is a sculptor and printmaker – she’s showing bronzes of dogs, monkeys, cats and people, some of them up to four feet high, including a pair of magnificent greyhounds. UNTIL 24 MARCH MASAKO TOBITA: BETWEEN THE TIMES n Winchester’s Minster Gallery is currently showing an exciting exhibition of abstract paintings by the Japanese artist Masako Tobita, who studied in Tokyo and New York before arriving in the UK 22 years ago – her work has been seen

at the RA Summer Exhibition in London, amongst others. Seeing her work as highly autobiographical, it’s been dominated by the colour red since the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated her homeland: feeling compelled to “step into the core of her emotions”, she feels it’s the only outpouring powerful enough to reflect her feelings. UNTIL 14 APRIL LANDSCAPES OF THOMAS HARDY’S WESSEX n A collaboration between Dave Gunning, David Inshaw and Rob Pountney who have depicted the dramatic landscapes and ancient archaeological sites of Hardy’s Wessex landscape. Key works were specifically selected by the artists to show their varied and eclectic response to the places in Wiltshire that Hardy wrote about. Encompassing

n Ad de Bont’s acclaimed play Anne & Zef arrives at the Salisbury Playhouse this month

n An extravaganza of movement at the Arts Centre with Dance Fresh
