Scientists set to explore sustainable skincare
Scottish company Aquapharm has joined forces with Norwegian firm Aqua Bio Technology (ABT) to create a new generation of sustainable ingredients for the skincare market. Together the companies hope to identify natural marine ingredients that could replace the
petroleum-based components used extensively within the skincare market. Scientists at Aquapharm believe marine microbes are the key to finding the bio-active ingredients of the future, and have developed specialist fermentation processes to source and produce such extracts.
Now they will undertake a development programme in conjunction with ABT, sharing their expertise in a bid to prove these extracts can be produced with minimal environmental impact – and successfully commercialised for the personal care market. Jon Williams, VP Commercial, Aquapharm, said: “We have an ageing population, and one that is
more environmentally aware, and both factors have led to increasing demand for personal care products with proven scientific benefits. As such brand owners and retailers in this sector are seeking out new sources of innovative, naturally-derived, anti-ageing ingredients – and we believe we have an answer.
“The collaboration with Aquapharm will enable ABT to tap into the knowledge and lucrative pipeline that Aquapharm holds. Together with ABT’s technical know-how and ability to commercialise marine ingredients through its vast worldwide distributor network, this paves the way for a true win-win collaboration,” commented Arvid Lindberg, CEO of Aqua Bio Technology ASA.

Fast extractor for dynamic solid- liquid extraction
Atlas Filtri has introduced the NAVIGLIO ESTRATTORE®
the dynamic solid-liquid extraction by exploiting Naviglio’s principle. NAVIGLIO ESTRATTORE®
JEEN International recently introduced its patent pending, water dispersible Jeesperse®
Cold Process
Waxes (CPW). This breakthrough technology was developed to simplify formulating and manufacturing by bringing waxes into solutions via energy saving, environmentally sustainable cold process approaches. Comprised of wax/gellant optimised powders, Jeesperse CPW products form stable emulsions when introduced to water at room that impart exceptional aesthetic, suspension, emulsification and stability properties to creams and lotions.
Saving time and increasing manufacturing capacity is the ultimate benefit of this technology.
Also, utilising cold processes can greatly reduce energy consumption—water is conserved along with the energy traditionally used to heat and cool multiple formulating vessels. Additionally, utilising wax without melting imparts a different range of texture and feel in various formulations compared to conventional methods. JEEN International will launch Jeesperse®
CPWN
natural wax products at in-cosmetics 2012. These unique ingredients utilise natural waxes such as sunflower and beeswax to bring the same attributes of the Jeesperse CPW technology, along with the ability to formulate for the natural segments.

in the extraction of active ingredients from officinal plants, essences and fragrances, colouring substances, essential citrus oils, fats and many others. Since the extraction system does not involve heating, substances that are susceptible to heat do not deteriorate, resulting in extracts of high quality and lasting stability.
