New marine active against oily skin
French manufacturer GELYMA will highlight its marine actives range with ECOCERT compliant SEBOCEA®
at the show. • SEBOCEA®
combines the properties of the brown seaweed Fucus spiralis and those of the marine green microalga Tetraselmis chui, cultured in a controlled metabolic induction process in order to induce mineral bioaccumulation, presently the accumulation of bio-available zinc.

Thor will launch its latest preservative for powder products at the Innovation Zone during in-cosmetics 2012. Microcare®
PDM is a broad spectrum formaldehyde and paraben-free powder preservative for
both rinse off and leave on applications. It is particularly suitable for make-up powder preparations, dry shampoos, solid soaps and perfume powders. Active over a wide pH range (4-9), it can provide an effective alternative to organic acid-based preservatives or parabens. Microcare®
the antimicrobial activity towards a range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and confers excellent fungicidal activity. Microcare®

Effipulp, new plumping and detoxifying active
Laboratoires Expanscience is currently launching a new anti-ageing, plumping and detoxifying active. Effipulp stimulates the endogenous synthesis of hyaluronic acid to restore volume to mature, dehydrated, stressed skin and for complementing aesthetic cosmetic procedures at a recommended dose of 0.1-0.6%. The cells recover their functions thanks to
Effipulp’s detoxifying effect and their ability to synthetise key molecules, such as hyaluronic acid, is improved. In addition, it promotes the production of filaggrine and transglutaminase for preserving moisture thanks to a better stratum corneum cohesion. Laboratoires Expanscience conducted a double-blind study using 49 women with dry, sensitive skin and an average age of 49. The creams were applied twice-daily to facial skin for 56 days’, and the plumping effect was assessed
by quantifying the variation in epidermal volume using an accurate technique, optical coherence tomography (OCT). Whereas the placebo had no significant effect, application of the cream formulated with 0.6% with the active resulted in a 6.1% increase in epidermis volume. As a reference, a clinical study (Neerken, S et
al., Journal of Biomedical Optics, 2004) indicates a diminution of the epidermis volume of 8.4% within 30 years’. The active is recommended at 0.1-0.6% in anti-ageing, plumping and detoxifying skin care. It is approved for the formulation of finished products certified by Ecocert.
