In good natural company

At in-cosmetics 2012, CLR Berlin is introducing its latest lipid actives, in order to build on its expertise in the development of natural products. The actives are obtained from distinct and unique sources and show a significant efficacy, proven by numerous state-of-art in vivo studies. Using innovative technology, CLR is able to fill

the requirements of many cosmetic formulators for natural, quality raw materials with

sophisticated performance and claims. Focusing on the next generation of natural personal care products, CLR has made these lipids suitable for skin and hair care applications as well as colour cosmetics. The products are complementary to CLR's portfolio of active ingredients.

CLR Berlin, Stand Q50 Purer skin

Mibelle Biochemistry will present PoreAway, a natural ingredient to treat dilated pores, shininess and signs of impure skin such as blackheads and microcysts. PoreAway is based on an elaborate extract of mastic, a plant resin obtained from the Pistacia lentiscus tree. The bioactive components in PoreAway, mainly water- insoluble terpenes, are incorporated into a stable nanoemulsion.

Mastic is only harvested on the Greek island Chios, and the resin is traditionally used as a spice and for herbal therapies. A series of clinical studies were performed to confirm the efficacy of PoreAway. Compared to the placebo, a statistically significant refinement of pores in the cheek area could be confirmed in a study with 20 women over 4 weeks. A clinical trial with 20 Asian women showed after 4 weeks’ application a statistically significant reduction in the number of blackheads and microcysts. PoreAway purifies skin and reduces the appearance of dilated pores.

At in-cosmetics 2012, Fiberstar Inc. will present Imulsi-Fi; an all-natural emulsion stabiliser made from orange pulp. Imulsi-Fi’s distinctive cellular structure and unique protein and polysaccharide composition give the biopolymer both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties, enabling Imulsi-Fi to lower the interfacial tension and stabilise the oil/water interface very efficiently. Emulsions stabilised with Imulsi-Fi are pH, heat, and freeze/thaw stable. Imulsi-Fi exhibits highly desirable sensory characteristics, has a neutral odour, is non-allergenic and non-GMO. Imulsi-Fi has the INCI name Citrus Aurantium Sinensis (Orange) Fiber and makes ‘emulsifier free’ formulations and label claims possible. Dale Lindquist, President and CEO of Fiberstar

Inc., commented: “Imulsi-Fi is both all natural and technologically advanced. From its inception, manufacturers of cosmetics and personal care items have been drawn by Imulsi-Fi’s green appeal and blown away by its functionality. 2012 will be a big year for Fiberstar; we are expecting a multitude of exceptional cosmetic products that use Imulsi-Fi to be released into consumer markets all over the world.” A variety of sample formulas and commercial products to demonstrate Imulsi-Fi’s functionality will be available at Fiberstar Inc.’s stand.

New patented polymers

PolymerExpert has introduced a new and improved family of patented thermo sensitive polymers called ExpertGel. These systems are able to reversibly change their physical state upon a change in temperature. Diluted in water, they behave as a liquid at ambient temperature and gellify when temperature increases. ExpertGel products are capable of acting as SPF boosters in sun care formulations due to their unique gel forming abilities. One problem with ordinary sunscreens is that the UV filters can penetrate into the skin, leading to reduced efficiency and adverse reactions. ExpertGel forms a thin barrier gel on the surface of the skin, preventing penetration of the UV filters into the skin, increasing sun blocking efficiency and reducing toxicity.
