US GOVERNMENT CTO STANDS DOWN


US federal government CTO and assistant to


President Barack Obama, Aneesh Chopra, has stepped down.


Chopra was hired as the government’s fi rst CTO in May 2009. There is speculation he is likely to run for lieutenant governor in Virginia. No replacement has been announced.

The Army wants to convert a 30,000 sq ft room in the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) campus in Springfield into a Tier II data center.


Equinix said it is expanding its Washington DC data center. It said it will launch DC11 in early 2013, brining online 1,200 cabinets. The fi rst phase of the project is expected to cost US$88m.


It will be built at the same time as Equinix starts construction on Phase II at DC10 following the opening of Phase I in March this year.
