Message from the Chamber Letter from the Executive Director
The Northwest Highway Revitalization Plan announced in 2006 by the Norwood Park Chamber was an organized effort to gather information on existing conditions and create a vision of Northwest Highway as a vibrant shopping district serving our residents.
Step by step, we are moving closer and closer to eliminating vacancies and bringing in new business and retail!
This progress is a tribute to small business owners, their courage and dedication to serve their community and improve our quality of life!
In the late 70’s and in the 80’s the Norwood Park stretch of Northwest Highway had suffered a flight of mom and pap owned stores. Thankfully, we are witnessing a reverse process today! In 2011 several new businesses chose Norwood Park as their home and place of business.
The year began with the Norwood Park ACE HARDWARE store at 5907 N. Northwest Highway who had its grand opening on March 31st. In late summer a charming, artisan creations and vintage items store, WHAT KNOTS, opened at 6127 N. Northwest Highway. For dog lovers a grooming salon SMOOCH A POOCH opened in the historic building at 6048 N. Avondale. The store at 6130 N. Northwest Highway is now home to WINDY CITY DETECTORS, offering a variety of security systems and equipment.
On 11/11/11 we welcomed THE DISH, Norwood Park’s long awaited eatery featuring delicious menus and charming circuses. The grand opening was attended by enthusiastic local residents who now have a local eatery, finally!
The long awaited 6060 PLAZA mall, adjacent to the historic Norwood Park Train Station and Centennial Park has been completed and is in the process of accommodating new businesses. The T NAIL SALON is already open for business. The
Jim Del Medico In Memorium (1932-2011)
MO DAILEY restaurant will soon open its doors to Norwood Park residents. A SUBWAY franchise is already open for business, good news indeed for Norwood Park.
The 6165 N. Northwest Highway location will soon be home to NORWOOD MARKET, an upscale grocery/produce store. The location stood vacant for several years. An opening is planned for this spring!
And finally, at 6828 W. Raven we have greeted a brand new RAVEN STREET SALON, a Spa/Beauty/ Personal Care salon.
The year 2011 was indeed good for Norwood Park and brought us closer to the goal of fully revitalizing Northwest Highway and our downtown area.
Our work goes on! Ellen Wierzewski, Executive Director
