Boys & Girls Club’s 25th Anniversary Charity Auction, March 10
submitted by Boys and Girls Club of Salem Boys and Girls Club of Salem will host its 25th Annual Charity Auction on Saturday, March 10, at the Club. The celebration begins with a silent auction at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:15 p.m. skillfully prepared by The Tuscan Kitchen. The real fun begins at 8:30 p.m. when the live auction kicks off. This silver anniversary extravaganza is guaranteed to dazzle with an array of new and exciting live auction items including: tickets to the Jay Leno Show, airline tickets for JetBlue, VIP Experiences, Disney passes, Monster Seats for Red Sox games, vacations, exclusive dining packages, a whole house generator (installed), an ounce of gold, golf and sports outings and fabulous sports memorabilia! There will be a special “Sparkle & Shine” Raffle sponsored by Charles Rage Jewelers of Salem. One hundred patrons have the opportunity to buy a small jewelry box for $50. Each box contains a trinket, but one of the boxes has a piece of jewelry worth nearly $3,000! So, 99 boxes will shine, but only one will sparkle!
Our silent auction will be full of popular items like
restaurant gift certificates, ski passes, birthday parties, sports memorabilia, jewelry, art, vacation get-a-ways, wine and so much more. Since 1967, the Boys & Girls Club of Salem has

Young Residents Collect Candy for Our Troops
Michael (6) and
Paul (2) Caruso, of Salem went Trick Treating for Our Troops and donated over 20 pounds of candy to the Salem Knights of Columbus to ship over to our troops. They collected and donated all of their trick or treat candy, and Michael also asked his fellow first graders at the Fisk School to contribute. Michael and Paul collected over 15 pounds on their own, and the first graders donated over seven pounds of their collections. A good deed well worth recognizing. Awesome, awesome job!

Students at St. Joseph Regional School Take Virtual Field Trips
submitted by St. Joseph Regional School St. Joseph Regional School has its own Virtual Field Trip Room.
Known as the VFT room, students are provided unique on-line learning experiences through real time guided field trips. For President’s Day, the fourth, fifth and seventh grade classes visited Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home. Mount Vernon is a living museum – with actors speaking as Martha and George Washington and their plantation workers. Martha and George described their day-to-day life and answered questions posed by our students. The workmen of the estate demonstrated how they worked and the types of tools they used. They also ended with a Q & A session. Visiting Mount Vernon was a great way to combine a study of Colonial Life with a biography of our first president. World War II – the Double Victory Virtual Field Trips is one of the features that make St. Joseph’s a
hi-tech 21st Century school. To extend their World War II and Black History Month studies, the eight graders went to the WW II museum in Little Rock, AK, to participate in a webinar titled “Double Victory in World War II.” Actual war footage and verbal accounts from the soldiers who were there helped make this history lesson more real. The museum also lent the school a footlocker of actual World War II artifacts for the students to touch and learn about. Some of the artifacts included items soldiers took to the front lines such as a decoder wheel and spotting mirror. In addition there were artifacts that were used back on the home front such as ration cards.
