DEEP BLUE MAJESTY AND MISFORTUNE

Surfacing a Story that will benefit Sustainability

Counteracting irreversible human influence on marine life through engaging images that carry educational and inspirational messages, Brian Skerry photojournalist for National Geographic has made a point of using his camera to aid ocean conservation. Skerry’s sharp eye for stills that tell a story has won him acclaim as one of the best underwater photographers in the world and distinctly identifies his work with conservation.

Each assignment objectified by a theme to illuminate the plight of marine species and their eco-systems dictates the agenda, which is often arduous in length or condition. Having logged over 10,000 hours underwater, Brian’s dedication is unrivaled but the payoff is evident in the vividly intimate moments captured through his lens. In the field for up to 8 months of the year, arriving on location by any manor of means including snowmobiles, canoes and helicopters Skerry pursues diverse subjects in extreme and contrasting environments.

From tropical coral reefs to the frigid waters of the Arctic, bearing the weight of cutting- edge equipment Skerry dives into the realm below in order to give the world a sobering view of what we stand to loose. Amongst his most notable features "Harp Seals: The Hunt For Balance" and "Still Waters: The Global Fish Crisis" two cover stories for National Geographic that showcase his skill for surfacing a story that by means of awareness benefits efforts in sustainability.

Experience and perspective make Skerry a foremost authority on ocean conservation, a requested speaker for environmental convention and an explorer who’s wisdom has great value to us all.
