n 2003, the Ford 5R110W — also referred to as the TorqShift — came into existence. It was
first designed for use with Ford’s 6.0L diesel engine in their heavy duty truck line.
This transmission is basically a
redesigned 4R100: a 5-speed that’s actually a 6-speed. The transmission is capable of six ratios but the transmis- sion only uses five ratios at a time, depending on the temperature.
