Despite the team loss, Schell is excited about the future with her team. This is the first year coaching a high school team for the modern tennis methodology level 3 (pro) certified coach, but she’s having a great time with it. “I love these girls and I know they’re going to get better and better and learn,” Schell said. “Sometimes learning is when you’re in the trenches and giving it your all, you’re limited in your skill and knowledge but you’re still trying to fight. They’re going to do great. I’m feeling so hopeful.” Estrella’s second match was Thursday at Desert Edge. Results were unavailable at press time. The Lady Wolves return to the court March 6, hosting Antelope at 3:30 p.m.

Valentine likes his team. It’s only the school’s second year with a senior class. “We’re starting to get numbers and it’s just training and getting consistent,” he said. “It’s hard to tell how the year will go, but I’m optimistic.” His top two players, Lewis and Querrer, are not tournament players but they enjoy the game and want to do well, Valentine said. “They’ll take a loss, but they don’t enjoy it,” he said. “They want to learn from their mistakes and make them right. That will help as they go through the season.”
The Lady Rough Riders played again Thursday at Phoenix Sierra Linda. The result was unavailable at press time. Youngker will host Shadow Ridge at 3:30 p.m. March 7. “I would say the girls are always confident, but hopefully this [win] will really show them that they have the mindset that we’re more than just competing this year.”
