Jordan Taylor Takes First at Junior Championships

F

or the second consecutive year MAC Junior Handball made an impact at the annual USHA National Junior Handball Championships. This year the tour- nament was held in Tucson, Arizona and two of MAC’s juniors made the Christmas Day trip to compete in the 17-and under and 15-and under divisions. Junior member Jordan Taylor battled through the bracket and took first place in the 17-and under boys B division. Both he and junior member Austin Biddle were near the younger age of the divisions and are eligible to compete in the same divisions next December. The Irv Alten Holiday Classic was held at MAC on Saturday, Dec. 17. This annual event featured more than 60 participants from clubs around Oregon and Washington. All courts were packed with great doubles action for the first three hours, and then as veteran players caught up with old friends, the next generation of handball continued playing highly competi- tive matches. Following the event a lunch was provided free of charge courtesy of the Irv Alten Handball Foundation and the MAC Handball Committee. WM

The Body: Care and Maintenance

AC Integrative Fitness continues the Rebound Lecture Series with a presentation on the aging process and how it affects the musculoskeletal system – bones and joints, muscles and tendons. This dynamic system propels humans through work and play, and constantly adapts to life’s stresses. Basic anatomy and physiology is reviewed, with special emphasis on how aging, disuse, and accu- mulated wear and tear can cause common ailments: arthritis, tendinitis and tendon ruptures, osteoporosis and fractures. The presentation is given by MAC member Dr. Alan P. Newman, a board certified orthopedic surgeon with fellow- ship training in sports medicine, knee and shoulder conditions.
