2011 COMMITTEE REPORTS

CULTURE AND STYLE COMMITTEE M

AC’s Culture and Style Committee was invigorated during this committee year by a talented group of members who exercised extraordinary event management expertise and creative capital to produce a series of entertaining and educa- tional luncheon activities and special evening events for the club’s membership. Assisted with the wisdom of our third- year committee class consisting of Anne

Richard Horswell

Cleve, Gina Crowder, Annie Duden and Erika Wrenn, our portfolio of events was strengthened through pre-planning of luncheons through June 2011 by the previous committee.

As producers of evening add-ons to our typical daytime schedule like Allure of the Automobile (Annie Duden, chair), the superb Cognac Tasting (Marcia Miller, chair), and Get Naked Fast (Gina Crowder, chair), the committee was also able to bring such topics as party planning, Timberline Lodge, the art of jewelry, organization, and the annual Holiday Fashion Show (Anne Cleve, chair) to life in a luncheon format. Our guiding principle of “give the member

amily Events was busy this year as more families than ever are enjoying our events. As our atten- dance for events rose, we reached out to members all around the club for assistance and support for setup, take down, and to help run our events. Thank you so much to our amazing volunteers. Your work is very much appreciated.

something they can’t get anywhere else” served as our rallying point.

Jill Whitaker helped bring the Oscars to MAC with February’s Academy Awards preview; Nancy Sergeant’s horticultural background provided direction for March’s Garden to Vase presentation; and, Mary O’Connor’s connections to the art world will bring a showcase of Portland Art Museum and MAC’s signature art collec- tion in April.

dren enjoyed sunshine and a beautiful field to search for treats filled eggs. The Easter Bunny made an appearance, and everyone enjoyed the renovated location. The Father Daughter Dinner Dance was held with glitz and glam, and 648 attendees came down the red carpet and danced the night away with the help of ballroom dance instructors.

Soccer was the name of the game for our mother son event this year. Moms and boys enjoyed games and laughter in the gym as they prepared to watch our very own Portland Timbers! Timber Joey posed for pictures at this action-packed event. A record-breaking 215 children attended our Harvest Halloween Party

t was another fun and exciting year for the Junior Events Committee. We started the year by welcoming six new committee members. Our

committee is made up of four eighth graders, two seventh graders and three sixth graders, representing various schools. We meet the second Tuesday of every other month to plan events for MAC juniors. This year we succeeded in accom- plishing our goals of being more “green” at events, providing nominees for the Al Tauscher Award and planning two new

this year. Families enjoyed magic and rope tricks as they wandered through the ball- room, and created tasty treats and spooky crafts.

Santa made an appearance in the lobby this year at our Children’s Holiday Party. Children wrote letters to the big guy, enjoyed making doughnut snowmen, and listening to the musical sounds of the Mellomacs. We recently held our second Family

events. In August we sponsored a junior paintball excursion to Action Acres in Canby. This first time event sold out and was a fun- filled day for all who attended. The most popular event we plan continues to be the MAC Dance for junior members in grades sixth through eighth. This

year we took the dances in a new direction by focusing more on fun giveaways, prizes and activities than in previous years. These included Paparazzi Tonight red carpet photos, snow machines and disco balls for

a winter whiteout, custom MAC Dance T-shirts, and even an iPod Touch raffle giveaway. As usual, these dances were a success and we look forward to coming up with even more new and improved ideas. We recently followed through with another new idea when planning an off- site event at Evergreen Wings and Waves Water Park to take place on May 5. We are excited to offer this new event. We are thankful to all our committee members who joined us this year and contributed their new ideas and energy: Tully Bush, Henry Joyce, Jenna Koury, Tim Malueg, Ashley Mepham, Brigitte Mepham and Spencer Reilly. We know we are leaving the committee in good hands next year with this creative group! WM
