successful. The devel- opment of a unified and coordinated junior program continues to be led by our volleyball program coordinator Kellie Scholl. Scholl was named the 2011 Oregon volleyball coach of the year.

The already strong coaching staff of Scholl, technical coordinator Laura Humphrey, U16 Black Coach Jennifer Wagner, U14 Red Coach Megan Pollard and U12 White coach Alicia Dupont, are joined this year by Lea Petock, Elise Yarnell and Nicole Miles. Petock is the U12 Black coach this season; she is currently the Lincoln High School varsity volleyball coach and has expe- rience coaching club volleyball. Elise Yarnell

coaches the U12 Red team this year; she is an assistant coach at Aloha High School and played at Eastern University. Nicole Miles coaches this year’s U14 Black team; she has coached at both high school and club, regis- tering an extremely high winning percentage over her career. We had more than 90 players try out this year for the 2011–2012 season. We are fielding, three U12 teams, two U14 teams and one U16 Black team. We are continuing the junior developmental program started by Kellie Scholl and the coaching staff last year. This year’s U11 developmental team has 13 players. In addition MAC volleyball is allowing boys to participate in the volleyball program under the CEVA rules. We are hoping to see boys participate in our camps, clinics and teams in the future. This year has also seen an increased interest in adult volleyball. The Fall Open play, which was played on Tuesday nights,

he Walking and Hiking committee had another busy year, sponsoring more than 200 walking and hiking events, including several workshops and evening programs. We initiated the First Thursday Art Walks and the Sunday afternoon Family Walks, both of which were well attended. We participated

in the Goose Hollow Neighborhood Clean Up with MACorp Volunteers and pulled ivy off the trees along the MAC Trail. We had 25 Snowshoe/cross country ski outings on Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams and in Central Oregon. We hiked in Forest Park with Marcy Houle and Laura Foster. We had more than 25 hikes in the Gorge, including Lyle Cherry Orchard, Dog Mountain, Catherine Creek and Table Mountain. We hiked at Mount Hood (including Gnarl Ridge, Flag Point Lookout and Paradise Park), Mount Adams (including Gotchan Creek, Little Huckleberry and Sleeping Beauty), and Mount St. Helens (including Chocolate Falls, Coldwater Peak, Sheep Canyon and Ape Canyon) and at the coast (including Tillamook Head, Saddle Mountain and Cape Falcon). We hiked on the Deschutes River, the Rogue River and in Central Oregon,
including the Obsidian Trail in the Three Sisters Wilderness and to Bend Lake at the base of Broken Top Mountain. We tested the new zip line and high ropes challenge park east of Salem. We had members partici- pating in marathons and half marathons. Our evening

programs included George and Sue Stonecliffe’s slide show of their adventures sailing across the South Pacific, Bill Sullivan discussing his Favorite Hikes in Oregon book, Mary Houle’s presentation on One City’s Wilderness, her book about Forest Park, and Ken and Candy Krebs’ slide show on mountain climbing in Mongolia. We finished the year with our traditional
Four T’s (hiking from MAC to the Zoo instead of taking MAX) and several ‘Lights and Lobbies’ outings.
