Michael Manning, a new cycling instructor. Under the leadership of Fitness Director Darrell Duvauchelle, MAC Group Exercise hosts a diverse program for its members. Class attendance aver- ages well over 2,000 members weekly. The Dance/Group Exercise Committee is excited over the renovation of Studio 1 and 3 and the addition of a cycling studio. This gives the growing attendance at the NIA and EVOLUTION classes more space. In October the committee hosted the Joan Harmony Memorial Award party. The recipient this year is Melissa Nornes, a popular dance instructor and dance program assistant.
Program had more than 300 members enrolled in 54 classes per week conducted by 19 instructors. The program’s instructors shone as performers themselves with the majority appearing on stages in Portland and around the world. Laura Haney, the

The annual MAC dance recital was held in June at the Newmark Theater with 700 in attendance. The second annual mini recital, held at the club for our youngest performers (ages 3-5), had 300 in attendance. For the 2010 11 competitive season, MAC Company Dancers (formerly known as the Elite dancers) participated in four local and regional competi- tions. MAC hosted the inaugural Young Choreographers Competition with
t has been another great year for the MAC Decathlon Committee. We successfully hosted our three annual events: the Classic Decathlon and IronMan/IronWoman Decathlon in May, and the Team Decathlon in November. We had fantastic participation and a wide range of participants this year.

participation by seven studios. Additional performances included the Northwest Dance Theater Spring Gala (by invitation) and the MAC Street Fair. The team quali- fied eight dancers for the New York City Dance Alliance National competition held in July in New York. Anna Dickson and Sydney Mesher received merit scholarships at the national level. A season highlight was being recognized with multiple “ Critics Choice” nominations and awards for our contemporary choreography. Company dancer Sarah Wong received the Al Tauscher Award. We owe thanks to the Elite Dancers’ Parent Booster Club and Booster Club President Trayce Sprouse for their commitment and support of the dance program. The new booster club president is Kathy Allcock.

Overall Classic Decathlon winners were Kelsey Bowen and Joaquine Romera, with the highest accumulated scores over the 10 events. Phil Barry and Matt Presjak rounded out the top three in the men’s open competition, with Matt Presjak winning the men’s masters and Dunbar Carpenter winning the men’s golden masters. Amy Risch and Lynn Mesher rounded out the top three in the women’s open competition, with Candy Puterbaugh taking top honors in the Women’s Masters and Miriam Bitte winning the women’s golden masters.
Daemon Anastas. Larry Brown took first place in the Ironman Golden Masters com-petition. This year’s Ironwoman champion was Alyson O’Brien.
An awards banquet
was held in June to celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of Decathlon participants. At the banquet, awards were given to the top three finishers in each age category and to the overall winners. Special awards were given for most improved to Mark Barry and Cassie Cook. The prestigious Bud Lewis and Doreen Morris Inspirational Awards went to Joaquin Romera and Ann Lazar. The Team Decathlon concluded in November with extremely close competi- tions. A free celebratory pizza party was held in December with all participants receiving a certificate.
