2011 COMMITTEE REPORTS
he 2011-12 year has been a busy and eventful one for the Member Events committee. Our primary role is to oversee and provide assistance to the club’s social activity commit- tees and their events. A liaison is assigned to each activity committee to provide guidance.

Our biggest challenge was our board charge, which was a sweeping task to identify the strengths, weaknesses, oppor- tunities, trends and challenges of the club’s social programs and to develop strategies to improve the members’ experience. The subcommittee for this charge was led by Ted Fettig, who along with subcommittee members Carrie Stevens and Ilaine Cohen, presented a substantive analysis of club activities and produced a recommendations document passed by the Board of Trustees in November. Member Services Director Linda Ornelas and Member Services
May brought the rewarding task of choosing 10 outstanding MAC juniors and teens for the Al Tauscher Award, recognizing their accomplishments in scholastics, athletics, community service and MAC involvement. A subcommittee reviews the applications and selects the recipients. The event culminates with a dinner for the honorees and their fami- lies. The subcommittee organizing this award and ceremony was led by Richard Horswell. His subcommittee included Mike Mathews and Kim Noall. August is budget month. Carrie Stevens led the subcommittee, which included Fettig, Mathews and Cathie Sullivan. The committee analyzes budget requests from the social activity committees. The subcommittee works hard to meet the needs of the activity committees while creating a workable and conscientious overall budget. The subcommittee then brings the budget recommendation to the Member Events committee for voter

approval before going to Budget and Finance and subsequently to the board. The McAlpin Award nominations are received in December and the subcom- mittee of Ilaine Cohen, Stevens and Fettig selected the honoree whose nomination best fit the criteria. The award honors a MAC member whose service to the social side of the club has been exemplary. The recipient is announced at the annual meeting in February.
It has been an honor to serve as chair and I want to applaud the members of the committee for their tireless efforts tackling a number of issues this year. Committee members Carrie Stevens, Ted Fettig, Mike Mathews, Cathie Sullivan, Ilaine Cohen, Rebecca Frinell, Amara Norman and Bobbi Knight, gave not only their time to this committee, but also were frequent volunteers to the events of the social committees. The guidance of trustees Kim Sisul and Jim Cleary was invaluable as was the help of Member Services staff Abby DenUyl, Linda Ornelas and Nicole Greider. WM
The remaining 2009 lottery applicants are currently being processed. The 2012 lottery, held Jan. 25, drew 362 senior family memberships and 181 individual applicants to be considered over the next three years as membership slots become available.

Along with reviewing applications for membership we reviewed 255 resignations and seven medical leave of absence requests.
