2011 COMMITTEE REPORTS
It was an exciting and busy 2011 for MAC committees. The following reports provide an insight into how much work MAC’s committee volunteers do for all members.

AC athletes enjoyed another
banner year in 2011, winning three world championships,
26 national champion- ships and numerous regional and state titles.
It was a busy
year for the Athletic Committee. Our 15 members attended the

monthly meetings of 22 sport commit- tees as liaisons to help them continue to improve their excellent programs. The Athletic Committee heartily endorsed the terrace enclosure project, now underway, which maximizes the club’s footprint.
The Athletic Committee was given two board charges this year. An athletic media subcommittee (Scott Stevens, chair) focused on how information regarding each sport should be updated and can be easily accessed by all members. A common theme emerged relating the search functionality of the website and responsibility each committee has to ensure current, complete
information is made available on their sport’s page. The results were a new Athletic Media Policy and Minimum Standards Outline for our sport committees. A hosted athletic events subcommittee (Jamie Daigle, chair) focused on looking at pricing models for large tournaments held at the club compromised of largely non-members, to see if they are paying their fair share of the costs. The committee reviewed policies, but recommended no change be made since the host sport committee is covering current costs. The four standing subcommittees were also busier than normal in 2011. The athletic awards subcommittee (Scott Stevens, chair) reviewed numerous nominations for the Wall of Fame and Gallery of Champions, and selected the annual winners of the Joe Loprinzi Inspirational Award and the Mel Fox Amateur Athlete Award.
The athletic membership subcommittee (Jamie Daigle, chair) assessed new athletic member and member coach applicants and reviewed their performance regularly. Member coaches offer a tremendous value to the club by providing excellent coaching to MAC members at no direct cost.

The budget subcommittee (Laura Martin, chair) reviewed budget requests from each of the sport committees for capital, championship, developmental, committee and interclub funds. Notably, developmental funding was increased by 10 percent for 2012, mainly to provide funding for entry fees for competitive MAC athletes. We thank the Board of Trustees for its continued support on these key issues of importance to the athletic community. The long range planning subcommittee (Bob Radler, chair) had the task of final- izing the new athletic media policy and revisions to numerous athletic policies, procedures and championship funding requirements unique to several sports, for final presentation to the Board of Trustees. Many thanks go to my fellow committee members for their hard work and support throughout the committee year. Thanks to the sport committee chairs for their leadership and members who serve on sport committees. Given these guidelines, initiatives the committee completed this year included an informal survey among members and colleagues on social network usage; impressions and suggestions for improve- ment of The Winged M and the website; review and input regarding the recently launched mobile MAC website, which is displayed when accessing
theMAC.com from a mobile device; and review and input to the Athlete Committee for their newly implemented policy on media and commu- nications standards.
A continued topic of discussion and focus for MAC is social media and its use within the club. An ad hoc sub-committee was formed, chaired by Sebastian Weztel, to continue to explore options for usage models, strategies and implementation, as well as define guidelines and policies around social media use by members and staff.

year’s committee members Bill Cordano, Robert Graves, Dan Morris, Rebecca Roberts, Ronald Shoquist, Tom Stevenson III, Jeff Yarne, Jubilee Vigna, and Dennis Winkelman, board liaisons John Carr and Jim Cleary; and staff liaisons Michole Jensen and Karen Cumbers. WM
