ECOUPDATE SUSTAIN-ABLE

Colin Torley, VEKA's Sales and Marketing Director, tells Clearview that the Burnley-based system supplier is proud to be able to provide the high-spec products that enable architects and specifiers to meet the sustainability needs of even the most demanding contracts and projects.

Sustainability has always been a major factor in commercial building and specifying and, as such, VEKA has always strived to offer the product range and support to enable our customers to meet these 'green' standards.

However, sustainability demands have become even stricter and more measurable in recent years, especially with the implementation of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

VEKA, for one, has welcomed this raising

of standards when it comes to sustainability as it offers us a chance to further demonstrate our commitment to this issue. We were the first in the industry to establish a completely closed-loop recycling process - turning old windows and manufacturing off-cuts into brand new windows. If you consider that each and every frame might be recycled ten times, this effectively means we are creating windows with a 400 year life span! You can't get much more sustainable than that.

The profiles in VEKA's fully-integrated Infinity system each contain up to 80% recycled PVC-U and are extruded to BS EN 12608. Infinity takes less than a quarter of the natural resources and has only a third the carbon footprint of conventional PVC-U.

The Infinity suite of profiles has been an incredible boost for VEKA's commercial team since its launch, and has already been used in a wide variety of prestigious contracts. Dundee Council has joined a long list of organisations to specify Infinity for its windows: Luton Borough Council became the first UK borough to switch entirely to recycled PVC-U for all window replacements early last year and more recently, the Church of England Diocese of Winchester made the changeover to Infinity windows for all future replacements in its 250 clergy houses.

Thanks to VEKA's acquisition of Bowater Building Products last year, we are able offer a wide range of products alongside the Infinity System to make it even easier for

specifiers and architects to meet the current agenda for sustainability in modern building projects.

The comprehensive commercial range

now also includes Bowater Architectural's System10 Aluminium window and curtain- walling systems, double rebate composite doors from Bowater Doors and Halo's System 10 SmartSash Window.

As brands of the wider VEKA Group,

Bowater Architectural and Halo allow us to offer products such as the System10 Aluminium window and curtain-walling system which have a chic, aluminium finish, but outperform this conventional material thanks to an energy-efficient, multi-chamber thermal break. These innovative products enhance a building's thermal and acoustic performance and - along with Halo's SmartSash Window - can achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 6 with a U value of just 0.7.

In order to help educate the industry in combining cost-efficiency and sustainability VEKA has also developed a seminar that has been granted CPD (Continued Professional Development) status. The new seminar, 'Specification & Design for cost- effective, sustainable and energy-efficient fenestration solutions' is part of a range of CPD Presentations offered by the VEKA Commercial Team to provide support to architects and specifiers across the UK when specifying windows, doors and curtain walling systems in building projects.

It looks at how the design and specification

of modern windows, doors and curtain walling systems can meet legislative requirements, offer sustainability benefits and deliver significant project and whole life cost savings.

RIBA and CPD Construction Service approved seminars are just one of the support services offered by VEKA. We also offer a specification writing service to NBS standards, ensuring that all products meet the latest standards and Building Regulations.

For more complex projects, our CAD design service can be utilised to provide drawings for use in the tender process.

If you look up 'sustainable' in the dictionary, you'll find the definition “(of industry) avoiding using up natural resources” and synonyms that include: keep up, carry on, continue, maintain and preserve.

This is exactly what VEKA has been doing for more than 25 years. Not only are our own operating practices sustainable, but so are the high-spec products we supply. We have been at the forefront of sustainability and recycling issues for quarter of a century, and we are very proud to continually extend our range to help our customers meet and even exceed current standards.

Along with an outstanding product

range, the VEKA commercial team also offers technical and sales support as well as supplying leads and providing assistance with PPQs etc.
