INSIDETHISMONTH EDITOR’S INTRO

Just in time for Spring, some good news: the latest Palmer industry analysis reports that despite a 4 percent dip in 2011, the UK domestic glazing market was still worth £3.7 billion.

By far the fastest growing sector in the industry, Composite Doors sector showed a 30 percent increase in 2010, a healthy trend that owes much to the new DERs, the Green Deal and some noteworthy product improvements giving composites greater aesthetic appeal as well as durability.

Door-Stop is certainly geared up to meet increasing demand, having just seen the 35,000th prepped slab roll off its busy production line. The company isn’t suffering from material shortages caused by import issues either, having its own Notts-based in- house manufacturing unit.

Meeting demand competitively means offering faster lead times and it is good to see that this is certainly happening.

We welcome the publication of the long-

awaited new Kitemark standard for cylinders and associated security hardware – details in this issue’s Security & Hardware section.

We keep hearing reports about the end of the UK Conservatories market – but hang

on – let’s check out some more good news here, about how companies are successfully adapting to market conditions: targeting the huge replacement market, enhancing their product offerings and utilising every means of promoting their products through all the conventional means and harnessing the awesome power of social media.

We welcome all our VIP VIEWPOINT contributors who offer some useful insights in different aspects of the industry.
