New look for The Potager
Barnsley House’s restaurant, The Potager, has experienced
a major refurbishment to make the most of its unique setting in Rosemary Verey’s internationally acclaimed gardens. The 60-seater restaurant has been redesigned to feel warmer and more relaxed with banquette seating and wooden-topped tables, and to give it a synergy with its surroundings. The refurbishment is part of a
two-year renovation plan at the luxury hotel. “The precision of the more relaxed
look designed for The Potager by Nicky Farquhar and her styling across various details - including the waiting staff’s uniforms - allow for a truly inviting atmosphere which is increasingly being sought by today’s discerning restaurant goer,” explains managing director Richard Ball. “The adaptability of the menu for varying types of occasion goes hand-in-hand
with this approach too and executive chef, Graham Grafton is also to be congratulated for his steer in this direction.” The new look has also coincided
with a new lunch menu, and until 31 March diners can buy a selection of Premier Cru Louis Jadot wines by the glass for just £6 each. Produce from the gardens also appears on the menu in dishes such as vegetable fritters with a coriander and lime dipping sauce, kale and leek risotto with Bathurst cep powder. Prices for the new menu start at
£21 for two course and £24 for three courses and will be available Monday to Saturday. The Sunday roast (priced at £23.50 for two courses, and £27.50 for three) will also celebrate the garden’s bounty. Turn to page 33 for two recipes from the new-look restaurant. •

motoring, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Abarth, is being launched by T H White. The new dealerships are already trading at the company’s Cirencester showroom alongside the existing Subaru and Isuzu dealerships, but a new site is to be built on a two-acre greenfield site in Swindon this year. Until the new dealership opens in
2013 customers can purchase the Fiat 500, the Punto Evo and Bravo as well as the Qubo, Doblò and the award-winning Multipla people carrier. An all-new version of the Fiat’s supermini, the Panda, also arrived in Cirencester in February and is now on sale. T H White, of course, doesn’t just
trade in new cars and would love to hear from people wanting to sell any Fiats or Alfa Romeos. • 01285 653354
CIRENCESTER BIDS FAREWELL In February residents of Cirencester said goodbye to
L-R Glen Robinson, Mark Lindesay, Henry Archer and Mike Smith
one of Cirencester’s most cherished residents – a bar which has been at The Golden Cross since 1970. On 26th February, after a final lunch service, the bar was broken up and destroyed to make way for a new model. Three hosts joined current landlord Mark Lindesay for a farewell drink to
share memories of the bar and the popular Black Jack Street pub: Henry Archer (who ran the pub from 1968 to 1984), Glen Robinson (who ran the pub from 2001-2007) and his predecessor Mike Smith (who was in charge from 1988). The new bar will be unveiled on 2
March, with a grand reopening to follow. •
