Rendcomb College This boarding and day school on the outskirts of Cirencester was founded in 1920. Originally the aim of the school was to be a “modified public school for boys from primary schools in rural Gloucestershire”. Now, the college serves boys and
girls aged three to 18. Set on a hillside overlooking the River Churn, it’s an inspiring setting for its young pupils. The main building is the original large mansion, which was built in 1865 by the Goldsmith family and was designed by architect Philip Hardwick. The Stable Block now houses the
centre of science, maths, languages, ICT and geography. The Old Rectory is now a junior house and there is a separate arts block with a wood and metal workshop, art room, craft room, pottery and kiln, as well as music rooms and classrooms.
A new wing was added to the main
building in the ‘60s. The school is surrounded by some 200 acres of land, with 10 acres dedicated to sports pitches, tennis courts and an open- air swimming pool. There are a wide range of extra curricular activities, social events and school trips. Plus, the school is proud to have small class numbers and high teacher-to-pupil ratios. Fees: Fees start at £4,580 for day schooling years one and two, and £6,390 for boarders years one and two (as of September 2011). Open days: There is a junior open morning on Friday 2 March, and a whole school open morning on 4 May. Contact:Rendcomb College, Rendcomb; •
