When Mike and Julie Davidson moved into their Plymouth home seven years ago, the whole house was in need of redecoration.
Knowing that it was fully functional and would need the biggest budget, they decided to leave the kitchen until last.
As Julie explained: “There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with the kitchen. It was obviously well used and well loved, and there was still plenty of life left in it. The dark wood units weren’t really my choice, but we decided to get on with decorating the rest of the house and save up for a full kitchen refurbishment.”
Finally, in 2011 the Davidson family decided that the time had come. They started planning in summer and set themselves a deadline of being in their new kitchen by Christmas.
Mike is a trained gas engineer and completed all the gas installation work himself. He did consider taking on the whole kitchen project, but the couple decided it would just be too much upheaval and take too much family time.
Mike knew what he was looking for in a contractor: professionalism.
He said: “We did the rounds of kitchen companies in Plymouth, but the one that really stood out for me was Simply Kitchens.
“When you walk into their showroom, you feel at ease walking around and having a good look at all the displays.
“No-one pounces on you, which I hate. We were welcomed and made to feel very comfortable – like walking into someone’s home really.
“When we did want advice and help, I was amazed by the breadth and depth of their knowledge. One of their designers, Peter Bousfield, looked after us and he was clearly an expert in all things ‘kitchen’. We also discovered that a few of our friends had been to Simply Kitchens and they’d had a
