roy’s big investment helps rainbow to clean up!
A Plymouth cleaning company is celebrating 15 years of putting a sparkle back into homes in the city.
Proprietor Roy Cook took on the Rainbow International franchise for Plymouth and South East Cornwall in 1987 and now offers a wide range of specialist cleaning services for both the domestic and commercial markets.
In the last year he invested £40,000 in a truck-mounted hot water extraction system which Rainbow use on most carpet, upholstery, stone, ceramic and pres- sure washing jobs. The machine is fitted in the van, so there is no machinery in the home when cleaning takes place.
Roy said: “Cleaning technology has advanced greatly in recent years and everyone benefits as a result.
“It was a major investment for us, but one that is really paying off because of the excellent results it achieves. Our machinery is around 10 times more powerful than an ordinary electric portable machine and means we can provide the best clean available and the best drying times.
“We get most carpets clean in up to four hours - in many cases sooner – which means the home is back to normal quickly with the minimum of disruption.”
He said that Rainbow were one of the few companies which pre-vacuum carpets first to remove any loose items and also pre-spot any difficult stains.

Roy said that many homeowners were tempted by cheap offers from companies whose staff were not
properly trained to carry out the work. The results were often disappointing and costly.
“I am regularly called out to homes to rectify problems left by other cleaners. Poor training and uneducated cleaners can lead to disaster in the home,” he warned.
He said that as a policy Rainbow never provide telephone quotes and always carry out a full home audit before confirming the fully-inclusive price, which also carries a 100 per cent money-back guarantee if the customer is not delighted with the results.
He pointed out that Rainbow International are members of the National Carpet Cleaners Association, which sets and monitors the professional standards in the industry.
In addition to carpet and upholstery cleaning, Rainbow International also offer cleaning of stone and ceramic tiles, including the grouting. After the cleaning process a sealer is applied to leave floors much easier to clean in future.
Cleaning of rugs in-situ is also now available thanks to the recent investment in the hot-water extraction system.
