college’s vision for ground-breaking creative arts school in
plymouth
The new arts school would make a refreshing change from the ‘targets culture’ which can cause despondency and be a driving force of causing teachers to want to leave the profession. This new model of arts-education could be developed and then showcased to the rest of the country as a glowing example of innovation.
Professor Brewerton certainly has the passion and foresight to dream big dreams and believe that Plymouth can be known for the vital spark ignited within the arena of arts and culture.
Plymouth School of Creative Arts believes that a good education is one that listens to you, engages and activates you – one that is transformational. It will provide specialist creative art curricula which teaches technical expertise with facilities and enrichment that support high levels of achievement in language, literacy, mathematics, science, technologies, sports and indoor activities.
The seamless progression from primary to secondary and on to further and higher education will be supported by the professional experience, facilities and expertise of Plymouth College of Art.
Although the application has now been submitted, your encouragement and interest in the school is welcomed and you are invited to comment at
www.plymouthschoolofcreativearts.co.uk. You can also pick up a leaflet at Plymouth College of Art in the main reception area.
If this opportunity had been available several years ago I would have been one of the first in line to register my support. It would have seemed like a dream come true. I would like to honour the courage of Professor Brewerton and his colleagues for thinking outside the box and being willing to pioneer something so different and original.
I left my meeting with him inspired; here was a man who could see the big picture of what Plymouth could become as a beacon for arts and culture. I wish him every success with this venture.
• Great innovitive art work is already developed at the art college. I have just heard about ‘Super-8’ a photography exhibition by students from Plymouth College of Art. The project is a varied collection of work with cinematic influence from a group of emerging photographers. The exhibition is at Mayflower House Art Gallery on March 13 2012 from 1pm until 7pm.
