A trip on the famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway is one of the

highlights of the tour

It’s easy for us travel agents to lose sight of what Britain has to offer as a holiday destination when you are more frequently sending people abroad.

The world has become a much smaller place. Thirty years ago most of us took our main holidays in the UK but now with flights, cruises and coach tours becoming more affordable and accessible, it is all too tempting to forget these shores and head overseas.

I was therefore very interested when a representative from a company called ‘Journeys of Distinction’, better known for quality tours abroad, introduced me to their brand new brochure entitled, The Very Best of the UK.

This tour has been especially compiled to tempt any of us who have always wanted to visit some of Britain’s major tourist attractions and features a diverse selection of destinations.

The hotel group used for this tour is Hand Picked Hotels, who offer rather unique and individual properties to add to the theme of the trip. You will be escorted throughout the tour with a Journey of Distinction tour manager and, in certain places, a Blue Badge Guide to give you the benefit of their more extensive local knowledge.

The itinerary on offer is as follows:

Day 2 – Spend the day in Stratford visiting all the key attractions including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Mary Arden’s Farm and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. Additional free time will then be available to further explore.

Day 3 – Leave Stratford to visit the historic city of York, taking in York Minster, Northern Europe’s largest gothic cathedral. You will also have a city orientation tour during the afternoon with a Blue Badge Guide. This is followed by a two night stay at the Crathorne Hall Hotel in Yarm.

Day 4 – Step back in time on a steam train journey aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Pickering to the historic fishing port of Whitby. Whitby is a
