The Greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride 2012

by Ruth De Mierre

Sunday 1st April is the day when the Greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride takes to the road again. It has an extra route, two major sponsors and a dedicated Bike Ride website open for entries.

y popular demand, last year’s popular rides are back: the Sergison 11 mile family route, the very doable 19 mile Cavalier Route and the starting-to-get-serious 41 mile Highwayman route. But, new for the real pros, is

the fabulous 75 mile Etape du Heath. All routes enjoy the spectacular scenery of Mid Sussex.

Easy to follow route maps are provided, clear signage will be everywhere and marshals will be on all parts of the route. Mechanics will also be available, as well as our rescue van, just in case.

The really good news is that The Orchards Shopping Centre and First Central Insurance Management Ltd have just signed up as major sponsors and Haywards Heath Town Council has, once again, pledged its support. The Dolphin Leisure Centre is also supporting the Ride, offering two spectacular prizes for entrants: all riders will be entered in a free draw,

and prizes will be one adult Gold membership for six months worth £306 and one Kidz membership (Under 16) worth £60.

Apart from promoting Haywards Heath and having a big fun day, we’re hoping to raise lots of money for charity. The Bike Ride’s main charity for 2012 is the Yews Community Centre, but we also hope individual riders and teams will perhaps try to raise funds for the charity of their choice. In 2011, over £11,000 went to charity.

Mike Leonard, Deputy Group CEO of 1st Central Group, says: “Our team in the first Ride had a fantastic time. So we’re very pleased that we can help this year and look forward to another successful day.” Orchards Centre Manager, Ian Goodridge, says: “Last year’s event was great and we’re looking forward to helping it become bigger and better!” ■
