Society Activities Just a Student Society...
By Jana Garina
Of course,
why not have our own weekend of film screenings, one screening per week just does not cut it anymore. Sure, why not try and get some amazing films, like a few UK and European premieres. Also, lets try and invite some big names from the industry. Maybe some directors and actors? Yes, lets have the one of a kind film festival not just in our university, but also in the Midlands, we can probably do this. Sure, why not... Wait, what now? All this
done by a student society? Well, I guess so. We all know that we
would not be here without the immense support from our sponsors, and people that stood by the society and believed in the ability and passion of students to achieve something more during their time at university; something that holds more meaning than an empty degree and a Facebook album
of memorable not remembered moments. But with the great support we have been getting, which we are still humbled by, we also put ourselves in a position of a responsibility that we now carry. This responsibility goes past the context of any society’s activity, even though some are still struggling with looking past this fact. I will not go on by saying that we will deliver, the outcome of the festival will speak for itself, as the mere existence of the festival already does.
It has not
been all smooth ride for the members to try and put on a best event possible. We know we have a lot to prove to a lot of people; after all we are just a student society, right? Yet the minor
setbacks have not killed the enthusiasm at all. I see people running around like maniacs, pouring everything they have and more into this. So you are just left there
standing and knowing that you better do the same. You just
have to. Page 7 Asia Exposure, Issue 3
