WITH OUR YOUTH, cont’d
deliver cookies that have been made by the students. This trip was a great opportunity for us to say Todah Raba to the police department for the hard work they do in protecting our city and our homes.
3. Second grade traveled to Arden Courts Assisted Living Facility to sing and make flowerpots with the residents as a special gift to them.
4. Third grade traveled to Palm Harbor United Methodist Church to meet fellow 3rd graders and work on a mitzvah project for a local children’s hospital.
5. Fourth grade traveled to Menorah Manor to sing and bring prayer books they made in class for the residents.
6. Fifth grade traveled to a UPARC Foundation group home to help beautify and landscape their grounds.
7. Sixth grade traveled to Hammock Park to pull out non-native species of plants, specifically potato plants which absorb oxygen from trees and jeopardizes the tree’s survival.
8. Seventh grade students remained at Temple where they held a car wash to help raise funds for the Suncoast Animal League and the RCS Food Pantry. These organizations provide care for not only our fellow human beings but also our four-legged fluffy friends. They also are the 7th grade’s class tzedakah project.
Please continue to help Israel “grow green” by helping your child buy a tree for Tu B’Shevat. All the tzedakah collected from each grade for the next few weeks will be donated to the JNF for the purchasing of the trees. Once a tree is purchased ($18), it will be recognized on the Israel map located in the school hallway. To celebrate Tu B’Shevat this year, the entire Sunday School participated in an Israel scavenger hunt.
The “Give A Kid A Backpack” project is still in progress. Please send in your child’s backpack requests if you have not done so at this time. We are still in need of more supplies. Todah Raba to all those parents and students who have already made their donations. Keep them coming!
Have you heard about the PJ Library Program? The Jewish Federation of Pinellas County has sponsored a literary program for children in grades Pre-K through 1st Grade.
In support of this program, on January 22nd we invited families from all the local synagogues to participate 9
and enjoy a “Petting Zoo Experience” on our school grounds. It was an amazing day of fun and learning. The Jewish value, “Taking Care of Animals,” was the focus and theme for this memorable day. We say thank you some wonderful parents and grandparents who helped support this event.
Please mark your calendars with the following upcoming dates scheduled for March and April: Pre-K – 2nd Grade – Little Seder – Sunday, March 18th Grades 3 – 7 Model Seder – Monday, March 19th Grades 8 and 9 – Upper School Seder Monday, March 19th Give A Kid A Backpack Celebration – April 8th Yom Hashoah Service – Sunday, April 15th Yom Haatzmaut Celebration – Sunday, April 22nd Brotherhood Picnic – Sunday, April 22nd KDG – 2nd Grade – End of the Year Program
We encourage you to join your children each Sunday morning for Tefillah, school celebrations and programs. Attending Shabbat dinners and student worship services are also wonderful opportunities to show your children that you are supportive of their Jewish educational experiences. Your children appreciate seeing you in school at these special events. By participating and volunteering in the Temple and the Religious school, you are performing a great Mitzvah. Jewish education is a family commitment! Let’s all work together as a Temple family to achieve this goal.
B’Shalom, Elaine and Gayle
