FLAVEL ENSEMBLE CONCERT – CLASSICAL MUSIC Wed 14th Mar @ 7.30pm


An exciting and varied programme of chamber music for wind, strings and piano given by the Flavel’s own ensemble


of local musicians. Directed by Helen Deakin.


LIVE FROM THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE - ROMEO AND JULIET Thurs 22nd Mar @ 7.30pm Romeo and Juliet was Kenneth MacMillan’s first full-evening ballet and from its premiere in1965 has been one of The Royal Ballet’s signature works, popular all over the world. Nicholas Georgiadis’s earthy Renaissance designs, with some of the original details recently restored, are the perfect backdrop to this tragic tale of ill-starred lovers. Composed by Prokofiev, Choreography by Kenneth MacMillan. Running time 172 minutes (incl intervals).


SHETLAND CONCERTINA –


BLYDE LASSES Sat 22nd Mar @ 7.30pm Blyde Lasses (‘Glad Girls’ in Shetland dialect) are a dynamic young female duo who showcase traditional Shetland songs and tunes on fiddle and concertina. Their performances are as rich in stories as they are in music. Blyde Lasses formed in 2007 when Frances and Claire both found themselves living and working in Aberdeen. After several pub sessions they struck up a playing partnership which has seen them touring in Ireland, New Zealand, and the UAE. The pair perform traditional, contemporary and self-penned Shetland material and are famed for their colourful co-ordinating outfits!


2004 aged 16, Yulia has performed extensively across the globe. Yulia’s debut CD recording was made in Japan in 2007 and the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation made a documentary about her musical life. As well as recent performances with the Hiroshima and Sendai Symphony Orchestras, she has appeared as concerto soloist in Moscow, Dubrovnik, Busan and Tokyo and most recently in the Philharmonie, Berlin. Programme to include: Schumann: Symphonic Etudes: Liszt: Mephisto-Waltz Ravel: Gaspard de la Nuit & other works by Scarlatti, Haydn and Debussy.

Calling 9 to 16 year olds, ever wanted to make or star in a film? Why not … MAKE A MOVIE


Blyde Lasses


An exciting workshop in which you will discover how to make a film. During two days you will learn to use a camcorder, speak to camera, record sound and discover the secrets of how to interview people. You will devise a short film and write the script using storyboards. The film will be shot in and around The Flavel and then edited adding professional music, titles and credits. The ‘World Premiere’ of your film will take place at the end of day two when you can invite your family and friends to come along for the first showing on the big screen. ACTION!! Tuesday 3rd April 10.00a.m. – 4.00p.m. Wednesday 4th April 10.00a.m. – 1.00 p.m. Screening 6.00p.m. – 6.45 p.m. £30 for the two-day course. World Premiere screening FREE to participants, their family & friends.
