MyPointOfView Music -one man’s masterpiece, another man’s misery!
You know, there's one thing I know I wouldn't live without. Music. Isn't it just... amazing?! There is never a day I haven't got my earphones in, in my own little world, bobbing my head away to a melodic master- piece! Yet, as experience has taught me, one man's masterpiece is another man's misery. A prime example: It
was only last week, whilst I was enduring the painful one hour bus journey to work, that a woman turn to me and scowled, the words she uttered leaving me in sheer disbelief. Yes, I must admit, my iPod may have been a tiny bit -okay VERY -loud, but let's face it, it's the only way to mask the sound of screeching children and argumentative teenagers. It had not been ten minutes since I had sat down when the lady perched next to me tapped on my shoulder, “You call that music?!” A remark so harsh for what I thought was a classic! And I recall the dozens of car journeys with the
family, when the entire trip consisted of a debate on which radio station to settle on: Radio 1 -Radio 2 -

Radio 1 -Radio 2, with my parents alarmed at the thought of Lady GaGa and Eminem and me and my sisters not too happy with the prospect of Elton and The Beatles the entire journey... So we did what we do every time this issue arises: settled for Hallam! Let's just say I only like a certain type of music, so
just last week when it was my dad's 50th and I was informed about a possible outing to listen to some 'live music' in a pub in Sheffield, I wasn't exactly jump- ing for joy. But being the polite, well behaved teen that I am (slight exaggeration) I opted to celebrate with him. And to my disbelief (and my dad's) I LOVED it! It was Rhythm and Blues, but not the R&B I'm nor- mally familiar with (you know, Chris Brown, Rhianna, NeYo) it was 'proper' R&B, the soulful stuff! With the realisation that perhaps I had been a bit
too narrow minded, the time came to update my iPod, and oh my, how my play-list has changed! I mean, there's now Country and Western, R&B (the proper stuff), and even Springsteen (my dad is proud)! But if I'm honest, I think this new broad mindedness comes with age, and I don't reckon that young people in general will be switching from Tine Tempah to The Rolling Stones any time soon...
