James Goss ’01 received the Sports Hall of Fame Award at Homecoming 2011. James was a track and field ten-time All-American, a record in LC history. By his senior year, he was a seventeen-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion for track and field in eight outdoor events and seven indoor events. In 2001, he won LC Male Senior Athlete of the Year and was recognized as the NCAA National Champion for long jump. Additionally in 2001, James was named the NCAA National Track & Field Athlete of the Year. He and his wife, MacKenzie Reed ’11, have a two-year-old daughter, Brenna. James currently coaches track and field and cross country at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y.


Michael Kurland ’01 has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing for Empire Facilities Management Group in Bohemia, N.Y. He has been with Empire since 2007 and previously held the position of director of marketing. He lives in Lake Grove, N.Y.


Erik Olson ’01, ’03 M.Ed. has joined VisionPoint Marketing in Raleigh, N.C. as a web designer. VisionPoint is a strategic marketing agency specializ- ing in web strategy and online marketing. Erik lives in Durham, N.C.


Safwan Williams ’02 received the Sports Hall of Fame Award at Homecoming 2011. Safwan was one of the best all-around athletes in track and field and a multiple All-American who won numerous Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships in


the hurdles. He ran the fastest 400 split on the relay in LC history and still holds the school record in the 400 hurdles. Additionally, he was a two-time NCAA National Champion in the 400 hurdles. Safwan resides in Lynchburg, Va.


Andrew “Andy” Sinclair ’03, ’06 M.Ed. was selected as the new head lacrosse coach last year at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va. Andy’s wife, Lya Zeno ’06, is a registered nurse in the labor and delivery unit at Centra Health/Virginia Baptist Hospital, also in Lynchburg, where the couple lives.


Brandon Childs ’04, ’08 M.Ed. has been selected as the head men’s lacrosse coach/strength and conditioning coach for the York College of Pennsyl- vania Spartans. After a nationwide search, he was selected to be the first full-time head coach in the history of the program. Brandon lives in Devon, Pa.


Holly Rozanski ’05 recently accepted a staff assis- tant position for the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research at the Harvard University School of Public Health. She lives in Quincy, Mass.


Julia Beyer ’06, ’08 M.Ed., Tammy Smith ’06 M.Ed., Jenevie “Wendy” Bailey ’08, ’08 M.Ed., James Patton, and Dr. Ed Polloway, LC vice president for community advancement, had their article “Special Challenges for Persons with Disabilities in the Criminal Justice System: Introduction to the Special Issue” published in a special issue of Exceptionality, a journal that presents current research and profes- sional scholarship in special education.


Joseph “Joe” Starsia-Lasagna ’06, ’08 M.Ed. has accepted the position of assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.


Forrest “Randy” King ’07 M.B.A. joined Averett University in Danville, Va., as director of marketing and communications in 2010. He also publishes a mountain biking website, www.bigmountainrid- ing.com. Randy resides in Danville.


Scott Byer ’08 recently accepted the position of group sales manager at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) in Richmond, Va., where he lives.

Melissa “Missy” O’Hara ’10 recently accepted the position of marketing coordinator with the Wash- ington Redskins. She lives in Leesburg, Va.


Ashton Harmon ’11 has joined the firm of Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP in its Norfolk, Va., office as an associate. As a student, she received the Robert L. Hill Distinguished Senior of the Year award. She lives in Chesapeake, Va.
