doctoral candidate. She serves on numerous com- munity boards, including the Lynchburg City Schools- Partners in Education Steering Committee. Pat received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Lynchburg College in 2010. She resides in Lynchburg.


Otis Tucker III ’97 received the Sports Hall of Fame Award at Homecoming 2011. Otis ranks second in school history for men’s basketball with 1,756 career points. He also holds records for third in field goals, fourth in career free-throws, fourth in


career steals, fifth in career three-point shooting averages, and sixth in career rebounds. His athletic achievement started during his freshman year, when he was named freshman of the year in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). During his senior year, Otis was named to the first-team All-ODAC as well as the ODAC Tournament M.V.P. Otis resides in Raleigh, N.C., with his wife, Michelle Ould ’00.


Margaret “Meg” Alcorn Smith ’99 M.Ed., ’07 M.Ed. was named 2012 Virginia Teacher of the Year and will now compete for National Teacher of the Year. See her profile in Educating the Educators on page 20. Meg is a teacher at Dunbar Middle School in Lynchburg, where she and her husband, Steve ’88, ’93 M.Ed., live.

Angela Hatcher Lynch ’00 recently accepted the position of communications director for Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest in Forest, Va. She will handle

much of the public relations and marketing for Poplar Forest, the octagonal house designed by Jefferson and built in 1806 as a getaway from the rigors of public life. She hopes to draw more national attention for the tourist attraction. Angela lives in Bedford, Va.


Jason C. Smith ’00 received the Sports Hall of Fame Award at Homecoming 2011. Jason is recognized as a four-time All-American in track and field and was the Old Dominion Athletic Conference cham- pion in the 100m, 200m, and long jump. Jason holds the LC record in the 100m. He also holds the second fastest time in NCAA history for a leg of the National 4x400 relay. Jason lives in Sicklerville, N.J.

explore peace and social justice issues. Members of the College community often turn to Anne in times of both crisis and celebration. In so many ways, she is the “soul” of Lynchburg College. Anne lives in Lynchburg.


Richard Shores received the Honorary Alumni Award at Homecoming 2011. He was a professor of mathematics at LC for more than thirty years. He coached tennis at LC from 1984-1996 and was selected as Old Dominion Athletic Confer-


ence coach of the year four times. Richard and his wife, Ida Mae, have been strong supporters of LC, attending Homecoming every year and supporting the Greg Holland ’89 Golf Scholarship Fund. They live in Urbanna, Va.
