Grey Coat 8 Physical Education news
U14s through to the Semis after penalty shoot-out Congratulations to our fantastic footballers once more as the Under 14s progressed through to the semi finals of the London cup. The girls know how to play but I think it was our closing down and our pressing, both individually and collectively, with which I was really delighted.
It was a real first-class performance all-round. We played with patience. A few things that we have worked on in training over the past few months they are now looking to grasp.
The game finished 0-0 and Grey Coat won the game 3-2 on penalties. In windy conditions, with the football pitch situated on an incline, the girls faced an uphill task, literally. I am delighted not only with the victory but the girls managed to keep yet another clean sheet, which is testament to the way they defended as a team.
It's always nice not to concede for the defenders but as I said to them beforehand, we attack as a team and defend as a team.
Congratulations to the following girls for a magnificent team effort. Elizabeth Todd, Sarah Tefera, Ronnie Bond, Oyin Ogunjobi, Billie Salami, Antonia Benjamin-Wand, Anisa Jama, Ruby Murr, Carla Cooper, Mathilde Edgington-Pollard, Ana Marques Roque, Gabrielle Monteiro, Millie Morrissey and Alice Vyvyan. Music department news
Spring Concert – Thursday 22nd March 7pm Students in the music department are working hard to prepare for the annual Spring Concert on 22nd March in the St Andrew’s hall. As usual there will be a wide selection of music to suit all tastes from classical to jazz and gospel. The school orchestra is working on a selection from the well known operaCarmenand the chamber choir will be performing a setting of Shakespeare’s famous textOver Hill Over Dale by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The concert band will be changing the mood with a performance of music from the film Chicken Runcomplete with Kazoos! There will also be a chance to hear a selection of GCSE ensemble performances from girls in Year 10 and some of the AS and A2 music students' solos. All extra-curricular music groups will be performing, filling the hall with around 200 talented students. If your daughter is a member of any music groups please remind her to attend all rehearsals to help ensure the concert is a great success.
The concert week promises to be very busy in the Music department. Just two days before the concert we will be visited by the English National Opera. They will be performing and presenting an interactive session based around Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. All key stage 3 pupils will attend performances. GCSE and A Level musicians along with gifted and talented pupils from all year groups will also attend a special workshop. Around 300 primary school children from a selection of local schools will be coming to attend performances. On the day of the spring concert itself some groups will be performing during the visit of the Bishop of London as he unveils the new stained glass window in the chapel.
We look forward to welcoming many of you at the Spring
