Grey Coat 2 Issue 20: February2012 Headteacher's let ter to parents
As you will see from this month’s Newsletter, the first half of the Spring term has been a very busy one! The enthusiasm with which the students enter into the wide variety of curricular and extra- curricular opportunities on offer is impressive and ensures that they make the most of their rich and rewarding learning journey.
The prefect team makes a huge contribution to the events in the school and the positive atmosphere of hard work, effort, team work and achievement. The Prefect Team for 2011-12 are coming to the end of their year in office. Their priorities for the year were to bridge the gap between the year groups, to raise money for charity, to ensure a greater awareness of the issues and causes which the school supports and to become a fair
trade school. The students have worked tirelessly on all of these priorities. The Prefects have created opportunities for the year groups to work together. Amongst the many things they have worked on they have supported the running of our theme day, the day of ‘Change’ in September, helped to organise our celebration of the new Arts Building in November, lead games in the playground for the students at St Andrew’s, run clubs, a paired reading scheme and a peer mentoring scheme for the lower school students, run a Year 7 and 8 buddy scheme, and run sessions for Year 11 students on choices at Key Stage 5. They have produced a cook book for charity with contributions from students and staff and raised money from the 1p for charity scheme. They have also put in place many of the key aspects of the school becoming and Fair
Academy update
At the Academy working party meetings over the past month we have been working on the following aspects of the conversion:
1. Preparing briefing documents for staff and parents. The parents’ briefing documents will include a covering letter, the timeline for the conversion and a diagram to explain the relationship between the Foundation and the Trustees, the Governors and the school.
2. Arranging a date for staff consultation and information meetings with members of the Academy Working Party. Staff will have the opportunity to discuss the content of the briefing packs, the TUPE process and ask any questions they have about this or the process of conversion
3. Planning for ways in which parents and students can have the opportunity to meet with members of the Academy Working Party for information and to ask questions and identifying suitable events and dates for ‘Governors’ stalls’ to facilitate this process. Full details of these will be given in the timeline document. This will be sent to all parents in March.
4. Drafting a letter to the national unions about the TUPE process. TUPE stands for Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) and is the process by which the staff are transferred over to the Academy.
The members of the Academy working party are:
