Local lovers prepare to tie the knot
ASHLEIGH MITCHELL
& EVAN PIVONKA June 23, 2012
Farmington Country Club, Charlottesville
Him: UVA PhD student Her: Legal Assistant at Zunka, Milnor, & Carter, Ltd Our love story: We met at UVA while Ash was an undergrad and I was working on my PhD. The Proposal: We had a big Europe trip planned for last June, and I was all set to ask her while we were over there. I asked her Dad’s permission in April and explained that I’d be waiting MONTHS to ask... no worries! Yeah right. The very next day, we took a nice quiet walk around Grounds with our dogs. Everyone else was at Foxfield, so it was like we had the entire place to ourselves. We sat on a bench in Garden VI and I asked her. “Couple Personality”: Never stop laughing. Design Inspiration: The wedding is in the evening, so it’ll be black tie. Simple and elegant, understated. Biggest Splurge: Definitely the ring. Family traditions: We’re hopefully starting one! Rather than have people bring gifts to the wedding, we’re having a commemorative tree planted on Grounds with a bench that everyone can contribute to. We’ve already got a gravy ladle and plenty of pots and pans and all that, and this is something that our kids and grandkids can come back to over the years and appreciate. The groom’s job: Fill out The Hook profile questions! “Funnest” thing to plan: Our joint bachelor / bachelorette party in Vegas. Most stressful thing to plan: The guest list and hotel rooms. Advice for the newly engaged: It’s easy to get caught up in trying to create a wedding that every single one of your family members and friends will love, but remember, at the end of the day, the only person that you need to be absolutely sure is happy is the one holding your hand when you walk away from the altar.
