JESSICA KAHLE & WILL WALKER
June 26, 2012 | Kitty Hawk Pier House, Outer Banks
Him: Professional Photographer Her: Quality Assurance Manager, Afton Scientific Our love story: We met through mutual friends about 2 and a half years ago. After some flirtation, Will set up a weekly game night in an effort to get to know Jess better. Little did Will know, Jess had a HUGE crush on him already. The rest is history. The Proposal: Will had racked his brain trying to think of the perfect way to propose and had come up with multiple elaborate plans. After realizing that it should be a more intimate moment, Will brought the ring on a family vacation to Smith Mountain Lake and waited for the universe to give him his cue. The vacation home had a deck with an outdoor fireplace that overlooked the lake. The first night there, the rest of the family turned in early, leaving Will and Jess alone next to a crackling fire. Will mustered his courage, dropped down to one knee, and asked Jessica to be his wife.
“Couple Personality”: Goofy, Fun, Awesome! Design Inspiration: Jess was pretty intimidated when first planning the wedding and realizing that you were expected to be prepared with a “theme”. After getting more into the planning details though, we decided our style is Country Beach Chic. Think mason jars, adding lots of color with flowers and subtle beach elements. Biggest Splurge: It will probably end up being the food and beverages-- we really want everyone to be able to kick up their heels and have a good time. Family traditions: Will’s family is Scottish so there was talk of him getting married in a kilt. Once we decided on the beach though, we thought that a swift sea breeze and a kilt might not be the best combination. The groom’s job: I asked him to be awesome... so far he has surpassed my expectations! Seriously though, Will is going to be building an arbor for us to get married under. We plan to decorate it with draping fabric and flowers. “Funnest” thing to plan: Picking the venue was pretty fun-- we had a few locations in mind but The Pier House was by far our favorite. When we got it booked we were ridiculously excited. Most stressful thing to plan: Picking the date. We were trying to find a full week that we could use as a great vacation with our guests. Added to that we had to navigate Will’s professional wedding schedule and multiple family members that work in the school system. We knew from the beginning that a Saturday wedding was out of the question, and thus here we are getting married on a Tuesday. Advice for the newly engaged: Decide what things are important to you first and make sure you incorporate them. Getting bogged down and stressed out over every tiny detail isn’t fun. We like to have fun!
