Him: Campus minister Her: Food sourcer for local food aggregator Our love story: We met at Church during our fourth year at UVA. He basically thought I was cute so he asked me out. I was pretty excited because I already had a little crush on him. Our first date was at Michael’s Bistro. Between that first date and today is a looong story. We finally knew we wanted to marry last year while I was working in Colorado and he was flying back and forth every several weeks to see me. The Proposal: We both had the day off from work so we went out to do some wine tasting at Veritas and were going to stay to enjoy some wine and snacks. After we were done tasting, he asked me to go get the snacks out of the car. Meanwhile, he secretly bought some champagne as well as the wine we had picked out. We walked down to the chairs in the grass and before he let me sit down, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We popped the champagne and hung out at the vineyard for a while and later had dinner together at the place of our first date.
“Couple Personality”: Silly, patient, easy-going Design Inspiration: Simple, elegant Biggest Splurge: Honeymoon to Bora Bora (using up all of John’s frequent flyer and hotel points!) The groom’s job: John and I have actually been equally involved in planning the wedding.
“Funnest” thing to plan: For John, definitely the honeymoon! For me, the wedding dress.
Most stressful thing to plan: Picking a place to have the reception. Advice for the newly engaged: Some of the stress that comes with planning the wedding day can actually be a great opportunity for conversations that will set you up for a stronger marriage! Let the planning process be part of “marriage preparation,” not just “wedding planning.”
