Mr. Krosnick refers to Haydn as the "original creator of the polyphony; the four-voice conversati on of a string quartet and it is relevant, current, modern and marvellous."
The Marti no Quartet "is a work we very much admire and we’re carrying this year for the fi rst ti me. Donald Marti no is a composer who unfortunately died a couple of years ago; he was a faculty member at Yale, Harvard and New England Conservatory. He was a sort of Italianate lyrical composer of music of considerable complexity but overwhelming lyricism and we are sure the audience is going to love the work."
The Beethoven piece is "probably one of the most complex and contemporary compositi ons possible." He adds that there are some composers whose work will remain contemporary forever.
One could argue, I suggest, the same could be said for the Juilliard String Quartet as well.
