Waxing Lyrical: Sculpture


Workshop Saturday 10 March, 10.30am–4.30pm Join artist Alex Hirtzel for an introductory look at the Museum's unusual collection of 16th-century wax relief sculptures. Learn about the technique and then have a go at wax relief carving.


Contemporary Painting and the Dutch Masters:


Oil Painting Weekend Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 April, 10.30am–4.30pm Cost: £64 Look at how the Dutch Masters applied paint and combined pigments to achieve the illusion of light and translucency, and then use oil paints to apply these techniques to your own painting and create works inspired by the Dutch Masters. Led by artist Dragica Carlin.

Sumptuous Silk Painting Saturday 24 March, 10.30am–4.30pm Discover and sketch from the exquisite motifs and patterns showcased in the Dazzling Arms and Armour from the East display. Artist Amber Khokhar will help you transform your sketches into a stylish design and will guide you in the art of silk painting as you create a one-of-a-kind hand-painted silk scarf or handkerchief.

Botanical Painting Saturday 28 April, 10.30am–4.30pm Get inspired by the Wallace Collection’s fabulous collection of Dutch still life paintings before working with botanical artist Mariella Baldwin and freshly cut flowers to learn about the skills of observation, drawing and watercolour painting needed to produce plant and flower portraits.

Flemish Schools Saturday 12 May, 10.30am–4.30pm Draw from masterpieces of Dutch and Flemish painting in the newly refurbished East Galleries in the morning. In the afternoon, draw or paint from a portrait model in period costume and produce your own works in the style of the Dutch and Flemish schools. Led by artist Minna Stevens.
